Brasileiro has a “New” Leader. Guess Who?

By: Luis Felipe | August 6th, 2007

Yes old folks. Last sunday, the glorious tricolor Paulista beat poor Grêmio by 0 x 2 at their home. This victory, combined with the Botafogo´s draw (0×0), put São Paulo at the top of the table with 34 points, against 32 points of the carioca team, who has one match less than the tricolor. But there´s no problem because in the next round we´ll be meeting Botafogo in order to confirm our isolated leadership.

THE PLOT

In a very cold night in the Brazil´s south, São Paulo didn´t give Grêmio a chance to greet his supporters, and scored at 2′. A good pass from Souza to Borges was enough to destroy the offside line of Grêmio´s defense, and the striker put the ball where we like too see. That was all in the first half. In the final time, São Paulo´s defenders were really tested, and had to work hard in order to hold Grêmio´s attack. A counter-attack was inevitable: at 18′ Borges lost a incredible goal face to face with Grêmio´s keeper but, at 42′ Diego Tardelli didn´t commit the same mistake and scored. Grêmio 0, São Paulo leader 2. Dance Grêmio, dance…
